San Diego State University is recruiting for a tenure-track faculty
position at the Associate or Full Professor rank in Marine Biology
or Ecology, to begin in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will
use state-of-the-art approaches to marine ecology, biological
oceanography, conservation, restoration, and/or related fields for
any level of organization from organisms to ecosystems. The
successful candidate will additionally assume a service role as
Director of the SDSU Coastal and Marine Institute (CMI) and its
laboratory to help lead the growth of this institute as a center of
excellence in marine research. This service position includes a
reduction in teaching responsibilities during the academic year to
provide time to fulfill the role of the CMI director.The minimum
Academic Year (9-month) salary range for this position is based on
the current CSU salary schedule for Associate Professors /
Professors and may be revised based on contract collective
bargaining. The anticipated annual Academic Year (9-month) salary
range is $116,000 - $120,000 for Associate Professor and $132,000 -
$137,000 for Full Professor. The salary range will be adjusted to
reflect Full Year duties while serving as Director of CMI. The
appointee will be able to receive additional compensation during
summer months using research funds, subject to campus policies. A
competitive start-up package will be provided. San Diego State

portion of total compensation.QualificationsThe successful
candidate will have an established career in their field of study,
a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field, and a record of research
accomplishments, including extramural support and collaboration.
The appointee will mentor students in our Doctoral program and our
Master of Science program in Ecology, as well as participate in the
SDSU undergraduate and graduate teaching mission. Candidates that
have a demonstrated track record of mentoring and promoting
inclusive excellence in STEM are highly encouraged to apply.We are
seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in and/or
commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals
from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups.
Candidates must satisfy three or more of the eight Building on
Inclusive Excellence (BIE) criteria. Candidates that meet BIE
criteria: (a) are committed to engaging in service with
underrepresented populations within the discipline, (b) have
demonstrated knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students
and faculty within the discipline, (c) have experience or have
demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented
students, (d) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to
integrating understanding of underrepresented populations and
communities into research, (e) have experience in or have
demonstrated commitment to extending knowledge of opportunities and
challenges in achieving artistic/scholarly success to members of an
underrepresented group, (f) have experience in or have demonstrated
commitment to research that engages underrepresented communities,
(g) have expertise or demonstrated commitment to developing
expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration, and/or
(h) have research interests that contribute to diversity and equal
